Spring 2020
Series of Photographs
Adobe Photoshop
The first project of the second semester at UTS, we had to capture a series of twenty photographs that represented each design element in reference to Ellen Lupton and Jennifer Cole Phillips’ ‘Graphic Design - The New Basics’. The following photographs were taken on iPhone XS, Pentax IQ Ezy Zoom and Canon EOS 90D.
The series of photos are presented with a theme called, ‘Observer’. I wanted to achieve a complete series where each photo represents each design element with the same main component, ‘people’. Each photograph involves one or more person(s). I wanted to capture the photos through the point of view as an observer of people in different settings. Rather than using people as the subject of the photographs, I captured surroundings that defined the design elements. Each photograph was edited and refined on Adobe Photoshop. The main characteristics of the series are vibrant, saturated and bold colours.
The highlight of this project was getting a better understanding of the design elements, the quirks in photography and becoming a better photographer as a designer.
