The poster plays on the idea of the context behind the following quote, “Complexity is an inherent feature of our existence” by Giorgia Lupi.

Taking a more visual approach, I have physically traced the word ‘complexity’, quotation marks and the name of the author. The main processes include sketching the outline of each letter, then placing sewing needles over the traced outlines and lastly, tying three different colours of threads on each letter. This aims to add visual impact to what is being read, once again allowing the audience to get a better sense of what the quote could possibly feel like.

This project helped me develop a deeper, personal understanding of how typography can be depicted in a tactile form rather than only experimenting with the existing typefaces digitally.
