Brief: Create a photographic poster using any eight of the basic graphic design principles inspired by “Graphic Design: The New Basics” by Ellen Lupton.
Concept: I intended a satirical approach to, finding beauty in the most unbeautiful and ordinary place in my life, my garage. I wanted to challenge myself to adopt a new way of looking at something so ordinary, messy and sometimes even plain ugly.
Outcome: 'In My Garage' Is a Swiss-style photography poster series featuring 8 images, each dramatising garage objects to illustrate key design principles. Minimalist, grid-based layouts and precise typography emphasise the contrast between simplicity and design theory.
Filtered 180 images of my garage into the most visually striking and abstract images and then experimented with laying out 8 images as per the brief onto the grid.
