PROJECT 1: Chance and Choice Zine

Chance led this world to be described as a vibrant town of creativity, imagination, and innovation. With this, I created a one-off zine to appear as a scrapbooked reflection on living in the generated world.

Brief: Use chance to build a small, imagined world. Use AI to generate an image of this world, then extend the world into a zine.

In this project, we were tasked to use a template and random number generator to create an imagined world. With this, we put the prompts into an AI image generator (Adobe Firefly) and experimented with generating images based on the filters given and the prompts used. From this, we extended the world into a zine. I focused on my randomly chosen ideas of aestheticism, craziness, and gratefulness. I wanted to use mainly collage to make a zine reminiscent of a scrapbook (and for this reason, not meant for reproduction) that was filled with ephemera and memories of this town. I’m really happy with the final product of the zine and think the materials I used effectively created a world that pertained to those randomly generated prompts. I also appreciate the idea that this is a one-off zine, as it makes it feel personal and delicate to those who it was not made for.
