My concept was to create a refined, readable publication that used simple techniques and visual interest to highlight the key ideas of the text. This publication was made with the intention of reproduction.
Breif: Typeset the article, ‘Should Designers Take Responsibility for the Ethics of Their Clients?’ by James Cartwright, to create a small, printed publication in the format of your choice.
Because this project was about learning a new skill set, I wanted to keep it simple while creating enough visual interest. I did this by keeping the body copy of the text itself clean and refined with a few pull-out quotes featured. Then, I wanted to create visual interest in the printed form of the publication and on the title page and pull-out quotes. The mixed typefaces made enough visual interest to attract viewers to read the article without being overbearing and overcrowded. To create a flow and continuation, I used the same method on the pull quotes. For the printed form, I wanted to, once again, keep it simple but still have a tactile quality to create interest. With this, plus the paper choice of neon colours with alternating pull quote colours, I made an engaging publication that focused on the refined details to create functionality and interest.
