PROJECT 6: Collage

A series of collages based on the slogan ‘repair and reuse’. The collages reflect the idea of repairing and reusing our things we love, rather than feeling the need to replace them.

Brief: To create a series of collages to be used as stickers, based on one of a series of provided slogans.

The idea behind the collages was to create a sense of awareness around the idea of wasting perfectly good clothing, toys, and materials with minor breaks and replacing them with newer, trendier things, that you don’t really need. I used photos of my own clothes and toys and ‘repaired’ them with a needle and thread. I used my own photos because it felt relevant to the concept and gave me restraints around the idea of repairing and reusing things I already own and turning them into something new. I also made a point to not buy any new materials in the process of this collage series, to be as resourceful as possible. Overall, I’m really proud of these collages especially for them being one of the first tasks of first year, and they are one of my favourite things I’ve made throughout the year.

Final Outcome

a layout of eight collages inspired by the phrase 'repair and reuse'
I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which I work, the Wodi Wodi people of the Dharawal Nation, and the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, and pay my respects to Elders past and present.
