04 HAND GENERATED TYPE

Drawing from Liva Lima's workshop, this project experimented with various methods to generate hand-generated type. As a result, producing a three-hand-generated type image series.

Generating hand-generated type underwater and layering of cellophane and holographic material allowed me to experiment with type in a fun way. This resulted in me developing a three image series of holographic hand-generated type appealing to the eye.

FINAL OUTCOME

PROCESS

Experiments with hand generated type

I experimented with overlaying, distortion, colour, reflection, and cutting with hand-generated type. I did this to present a sense of joy and authenticity. Out of all experiments, I chose 3 to be included in my series.

Editing of hand generated type series

editing hand generated type

I edited the saturation, brightness, exposure, colour mix, and many other things about these photos using Photoshop.

VISUAL RESEARCH

Re-printed matter (2019)

Re-printed matter (2019) by Karl Martens contains overlaying of coloured type, which is visually engaging. Inspired by his use of colour, I will use holographic material layering behind the type on acetate to create a colourful mood.

Typography in Water (2010)

Typography in Water(2010) by Jackkrit Anantakul places the type underwater, allowing the water's ripples to distort the type. Influenced by this distortion, I will incorporate this method as it provides a sense of tactility.

Light years (1999)

Light years (1999) by Michael Bierut overlays type through light exposure, inspired by this, I will overlay acetate paper to create this layering effect which provides a sense of transparency.
